Position Opening: Analyst

This Analyst role will be exposed to many aspects of Mercury with responsibilities in investment due diligence, portfolio company support, financial modeling & analysis, tech community engagement and deal sourcing, and internal operations support. As an Analyst, you’ll learn the ins and outs of the VC industry and have insight into fast-growing technology startups.


This is a rare opportunity to launch a career in venture capital. We subscribe to the apprenticeship model and are obsessed with team culture. In this role, you will be mentored by a tight-knit team of professionals who have built the largest VC platform in Houston and one of the largest in Texas. This role will be based in our headquarters in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities for this role include:

1. Investment Support and Research:

  • Provide support for the investment, finance, and operations team on an as needed basis. This
    includes portfolio company value-add support, ad-hoc reporting and data gathering, and internal
    operations support
  • Analyze industry trends, financial data, and market developments to support the development of
    Mercury’s investment theses
  • Collaborate actively with the investment team, providing meticulous due diligence and thorough
    financial assessments, induststry research, and market mapping

2. Investor Communications:

  • Support comprehensive quarterly reports for our Limited Partner investors, ensuring accuracy,
    relevance, and clarity

3. Portfolio Tracking and Insights:

  • Manage Carta Investor Insights, our tool for monitoring portfolio companies
  • Collect, curate, and analyze financial data and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across all our
    investments
  • Support the inbound and outbound efforts of investment team

4. Operations and Ecosystem Support:

  • Support the startup ecosystems within our regional areas of focus by managing and attending
    startup events
  • Assist with the management of Mercury sponsored collaborations with our portfolio and ecosystem
    partners
  • Act as a go-to employee for the Texas and Michigan offices for internal operations related tasks

Candidates for this position must exhibit the following credentials:

  • 1-3 years experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong academic track record
  • Detail oriented, but able to see how things fit into the “big picture”
  • Strong organizational skills (management of multiple tasks, priorities, people, and flows of information)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Passionate about technology and innovation
  • Desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment
